Suspect in Custer County shooting arrested in New Mexico

CUSTER COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) - The Custer County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) announced that Hanme K. Clark, the shooting suspect out of Custer County has been arrested by New Mexico State Police west of Albuquerque.

According to NMSP, Clark, and a female companion, Nancy Medinas Kochis-Clark were arrested along I-40 near Laguna, after stop sticks were deployed. NMSP tell KRDO 13 both surrendered peacefully. A weapon was found inside their white Dodge Ram. It was not immediately clear if that was the weapon used in the alleged crimes.

Clark was on the run after allegedly shooting four people, killing three, on Nov. 20 in Custer County.

Clark is now facing:

  • Three counts of first degree murder
  • One count of first degree attempted murder
  • One count of first degree assault
  • One count of criminal contempt

Before Clark was captured, the CCSO was at his property on Rocky Ridge Road. There, they removed a truck with bullet holes on the passenger side.

At a morning press conference on Nov. 21, Custer County Sheriff Rich Smith said that the victims were found at 173 Rocky Ridge Road, which is where two of the victims, Rob Geers and Beth Wade, lived. Smith said that this likely tied back to a land dispute that has been going on for years.

Smith said that Clark likely fled the scene just before or moments after the CCSO arrived on the scene on Nov. 20.

Clark was on the run for roughly 24 hours before he and Medinas Kochie-Clark were arrested in New Mexico in near Albuquerque.
