Pueblo County deputy fired, accused of assaulting a woman for second time in 5 months
PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- A man lost his job with the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office after reportedly assaulting the same woman in five months.
According to court documents, Pueblo County Sheriff's Deputy Donald Teschner, 38, was arrested on April 21, 2023, for allegedly shoving and pushing a woman during a domestic dispute. Arresting officers noted a "large lump on the back of her (the victim's) head with scratches." Arresting documents also outlined how officers with the Pueblo Police Department observed dried blood on the victim's shirt.
13 Investigates learned that Teschner is no longer employed with the Pueblo County Sheriff's office after a multi-year tenure as a jail deputy.
Teschner now faces multiple misdemeanor charges, including assault and violating a protection order.
This isn't the first time Teschner faced charges related to domestic violence.
Back in December 2022, Teschner was placed on administrative leave at the Sheriff's Office after he was arrested on multiple misdemeanor charges for allegedly harassing the same victim. 13 Investigates is not naming the victim because she is an alleged victim of domestic violence.
In his most recent arrest, court documents outline that Pueblo Police were called to Teschner's home in the early morning hours of April 21. When they arrived, Teschner was sitting on the front porch and told officers "Take me." He then told the officers "I shoved her. I'll admit that."
The call to the police stemmed from an argument over Teschner believing that the victim was cheating on him, which allegedly caused him to break her phone. The victim told officers that she "felt something hit her in the back of the head and she was thrown, hitting the wall and landing on the floor." The victim said she believed she lost consciousness and was knocked out.
Like in the December 2022 incident, the victim said she did not want to press charges against Teschner. She told officers that "everything would be okay if Donald would go inside and sleep in the basement."
Nonetheless, Teschner was booked into the Pueblo County Jail and was released that same day on a $3,500 personal recognizance bond, also known as a no-money bond. Pueblo County District Judge Steven Fieldman is the judge who granted Teschner the PR bond.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the Pueblo County Sheriff's office said the department could not comment further because his arrest is considered a "personnel-related issue."
This is Teschner's fourth arrest since 2019. According to court records, he was convicted of possession of a gun while drunk in 2019. He was sentenced to 18 months of probation in that incident.
Teschner was in court Monday, April 24 for a hearing on his December charges.
He will be formally advised on his new charges in court on April 26.
