Penrose Funeral homeowners return to court in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Jon and Carrie Hallford the former owners of the Return to Nature Funeral Home in Penrose are expected back in court today, June 6.

Following their last court appearance Carie has with G.P.S. monitoring and an unsecured bond while their federal fraud case continues. Jon is being held at a federal prison. The two were recently charged with over a dozen federal wire fraud charges for taking money from customers and the U.S. government through COVID-19 relief loans for small businesses.

The judge ruled that the Hallfords will be tried separately saying that Carie's defense could be "antagonistic."

Carie Hallford entered a not-guilty plea but then withdrew it due to a rescheduling. Jon Hallford did not enter a plea.

A review in the case is scheduled for July 11. The federal trial is set for October.
