Pueblo trash company worker fired after caught on camera urinating near homeowners property

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- A worker with a Pueblo trash company lost his job after being caught on camera urinating by a house while on the job.

On July 26, 2022, a C&C Disposal trash company worker, identified as Mat Sheppard, was seen urinating while disposing of Kenneth Harper's trash.

Harper shared the video with 13 Investigates. In the video, Sheppard is seen lowering his pants and urinating in the alley behind Harper's home.

"Originally, I was like this guy is disgusting. Are you really urinating on my garbage can and in my alley," Harper said.

Since the incident, Harper said he called C&C multiple times to have them address the issue, but those calls were not returned.

"I just want them to respond. Someone is urinating on my can and I tell them about it, that should be appalling enough," Harper said. "I am a business owner. I would jump at the gun to address this."

13 Investigates called C&C Disposal multiple times on Wednesday morning. They were not returned. We went to their location in north Pueblo and showed them the video.

The company said they "do not condone that behavior."

13 Investigates later learned that Sheppard was fired moments later. However, Sheppard called 13 Investigates and asked to tell his side of the story.

"I would like to apologize. I didn't mean to pee on his property, when nature calls I can't help when I have to pee," Sheppard said.

Sheppard said his problem lies with the amount of opportunities he has to use a proper restroom. He claims he only gets one chance each day to use a restroom.

"They only told us one time that we couldn't do that but our argument was, we only go to gas stations and stuff one time a day," Sheppard said.

It's a claim that C&C Disposal refutes. They tell 13 Investigates their workers are given one 30-minute bathroom break and two 15-minute bathroom breaks each day. They also tell their workers to stop at gas station whenever they have to use them.

"Nobody was around so I didn't think it was going to be a huge issue because I have done it before and I've seen other people do it before," Sheppard said.

Harper said his gripe stands with where the urination happened. He says it's only a few yards aways from Columbian Elementary School.

"Living in a school zone, it's about three hundred feet away. He's wearing their company logo so he is responsible for his actions and everything else," Harper said.

C&C Disposal said they visited Harper's residence after 13 Investigates visited their main office and showed them the video. They said the homeowner is more than welcome to file a police report.
