Local organizations in Pueblo give care packages and health care to homeless veterans

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) - Several organizations are ensuring homeless veterans stay warm and fed this winter.

At St. Mary Corwin Hospital, local vendors provided over two hundred people in need with winter essentials to survive. They gave out care packages with winter gear and food and offered health services.

Food like potatoes, cereal, and canned goods were some of what was in the care packages.

This month, Peterson Beckner Industries joined the Helping Hands by providing bags full of winter necessities. The bags were full of gloves, blankets, socks, hats, and hand warmers.

Several veterans told KRDO13 they are incredibly thankful for the Helping Hands organization.

Elenanor Flores said she relies on these supplies each month to survive.

“I'd be struggling. I'd be struggling because I'm not going to go ask for help. And I would just do with whatever I had. So it would be hard. It would be hard if I didn't have this would have these things in Pueblo. It's a blessing,” said Flores.

Helping Hands plans to ramp up its efforts next year by holding more of these events every Wednesday at the St. Mary Corwin Hospital.
