Kimberlee Singler’s arraignment pushed to November after court appearance today

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs mother accused of murdering her children in 2023 was seen in El Paso County court today for the second time since being brought back to the United States.

Kimberlee Singler, who was accused of murdering her two young children, was seen in court today, where it was decided that her arraignment hearing will be pushed back to November.

This is only the second time she's been in court since her first hearing in Colorado back in May. During that hearing, a judge ruled that new DNA samples would be allowed in her hearing.

Singler was first wanted in 2023 after a burglary was reported in her home on Dec. 19, 2023. When the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) arrived on scene, they located two young kids, 9-year-old Ellie Wentz and 7-year-old Aden Wentz, dead. Singler and another young kid had sustained injuries.

After an investigation, CSPD determined there was no burglary and established probable cause and an arrest warrant for Singler. According to arrest records, Singler was dealing with a bitter custody battle leading up to her children's death.

When police arrived at the home shortly after midnight in December of 2023, police say they found the two children deceased in the bedroom. A gun was found on the floor outside a bedroom closet with blood on it, according to CSPD. An autopsy later revealed both children had been shot, and one had a slash to their throat, according to arrest records.

According to records, Singler said the break-in happened around 11 a.m. that day, but the suspect had grabbed her and she had lost consciousness. When she woke up, she didn't immediately call 911 but took care of her injured daughter after finding her other two children dead. Singler said at the time she was too weak to look for her phone until it started playing music, and she was able to find it and call police, according to arrest records.

Originally, Singler's daughter confirmed her story, but later told police that her mother had given the children medicine that night. An autopsy report revealed the deceased children had toxic, or potentially toxic levels, of doxylamine, which is commonly used as a sleep aid. During a search of the apartment, officers said they found ripped-up court documents from a Larimer County court case. Additionally, police said they found two empty boxes of Unisom SleepTabs.

CSPD says they believe the gun used was one that Singler kept in her closet, according to arrest records. She told police she kept the gun for safety because someone had been surveilling her. In court records, Singler accused another person, whose name was redacted, of trying to get her arrested and taking her kids from her.

Though Singler had initially cooperated with police, they say she fled the country shortly after and was found in London. It was there that she was taken into custody, and an almost two-year process for her extradition started. After her arrest shortly before New Year's Eve in 2023, Singler tried to appeal a ruling that would allow her to be extradited to the U.S. She was back on U.S. soil in December of 2025.

Now, her arraignment hearing has been pushed back, and she will appear in court again in November. She is facing charges of:

• Two counts of first-degree murder (after deliberation with intent)
• Two counts of first-degree murder (child victim under 12 years old)
• Criminal attempt to commit murder in the first degree
• First-degree assault
