Colorado Springs school teachers caravan through neighborhoods, spreading cheer
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Amid the coronavirus chaos, a group of teachers and a principal from a Colorado Springs elementary school are hoping to spread cheer and words of encouragement to families and students in the area.
Teachers and staff from Explorer Elementary School in District 20 drove through the school's neighborhood Tuesday with decorated cars, signs and pom-poms from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
On their cars, the teachers wrote positive words of encouragement: "Miss you like crazy," "We are strong" and "You can do this!"
The principal, Kristen Driver, sent out a video to families expressing how much they miss the students and to let them know the teachers would be caravanning. She asked students and families to be on the lookout so they could wave and cheer.
Kristen Driver says, "Our kids miss us, we miss our kids. We need to be reaching out to them and spreading some positivity in our community. I'm just excited to their faces and see their smiles and maybe give the parents a little boost of energy too as the get ready for continued E-learning after Spring Break."
