Orange Theory Fitness offering free online classes

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The quarantine doesn’t always make it easy for people to work out. If you like to lift weights and use cardio machines, finding a comparable workout can be tricky. The folks at Orange Theory Fitness are trying to help. They’re offering free online workout classes through Zoom.

"We can still hold onto some of that community feel," says coach Kelley Millsap. "Members can see each other through the screen. They can sweat together, work out together, virtually hi5 each other, all with a coach. It’s as close as we can get to a real class."

Even if you're not a member, you can jump into the Zoom classes for free and get some hands on training from a coach. They also have a youtube page where you can do the workouts from home, also free of charge. And if you don't have workout equipment, no worries, because you can use stuff you have at home.

"We had people use babies before for weights," says Millsap. "Vacuum cleaners, bags of dog food, cleaning solution, toilet paper if you have it; you can do a whole work out with no traditional equipment. The coach will be able to give you options if you only have one object versus two, or something that’s kind of hard to hold onto. We can work around that no problem."

This is their way of giving back to the community. Millsap points out that physical health can impact mental health.

"It helps with the mental health of so many people out there. we know that we can provide one hour for those people to just kind of break away from quarantine and maybe feel normal. On the other side of things, all of my coaches would tell you is that when they’re coaching a Zoom class, it is close to normal as they’ve ever felt since the shut down."
