Manitou Springs Police release names of officers in deadly shooting

MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Tuesday, the Manitou Springs Police Department released the identity of the two officers involved in a shooting on Monday, April 11.

According to the department, Officer Jeff Schuelke and Officer Harold ‘Levi’ Hoover were involved in the shooting that left an El Paso County Sheriff's Office's K9 unit and the suspect dead.

On April 11, deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office and officers with the Manitou Springs Police Department responded to reports of a man threatening people in the 900 block of Manitou Ave.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, the suspect fired at least one shot at law enforcement. Officers fired at least one shot from their weapons, hitting the suspect.

The suspect was identified Monday as 67-year-old Wilford Robert DeWeese of Cape Canaveral, Florida.

The Colorado Springs Police Department is the lead investigative agency for this officer-involved shooting.
