Traffic stop leads to drug and firearm arrests in El Paso County

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Two people have been arrested after a traffic stop led to the discovery of several firearms and illegal drugs.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO), the arrests happened after deputies conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Peterson Road and Panamint Court in the Cimarron Hills area of unincorporated El Paso County around 9:30 p.m. on August 27.

EPSO says during the traffic stop, deputies saw a firearm and drug paraphernalia in plain view inside the car. The two people inside the car were detained and deputies searched the vehicle. During the search, officials say they found an additional firearm, fentanyl pills, illicit drugs and a large amount of U.S. currency.

Both occupants were arrested and booked into the El Paso County Jail.

According to officials, 48-year-old Preston Reno now faces charges of:

• Aggravated driving after revocation
• Possession of a weapon by a previous offender
• Unlawful possession of a controlled substance
• Special offender -- drug offenses
• Various traffic offenses

Reno is being held on a $50,000 bond.

EPSO says 43-year-old Amanda Pacheco-Sammon now faces charges of:

• Possession of a weapon by a previous offender
• Special offender -- drug offenses
• Unlawful possession of a controlled substance
• Unlawful distribution, manufacture, dispensing or sale of a controlled subtance

Pacheco-Sammon was released on a $50,000 bond.
