Hot Temperatures Continue, High Terrain Showers For Sunday
Tonight: Isolated showers and thunderstorms over and near the mountains will end this evening, then mostly clear with low temperatures in the 60s for most areas on the plains, but the high mountain valleys and mountain communities will cool into the 40s and 50s.
Sunday: Sunny in the morning, then increasing clouds, breezy and hot during the afternoon with high temperatures in the 90s and 100s over the plains, 80s for the mountains and high mountain valleys. A cold front will move towards the area during the afternoon and may aid in the development of isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms over more areas late in the day into Sunday evening, but the mountains and higher terrain along I-25 still look to have the best chance for some rain.
Extended: Low-level moisture behind the cold front may support scattered stronger thunderstorms over more of the area early next week, but the plume of moisture associated with the summer monsoon looks to settle primarily over the mountains with chances for storms over the plains decreasing as the cooler air and low-level moisture begin to wash away from the mountains. This time of year a lesser number of storms generally means warming temperatures, and after a brief break from the hottest air Monday & Tuesday we do expect the air to heat up again for the rest of the week.
