Suspect arrested for deadly shooting on Fountain Boulevard

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says a suspect has been arrested for a fatal shooting that happened early Thursday on E. Fountain Boulevard.

According to an update from the sheriff's office on Friday, 29-year-old Roberto Carlo Delgado Cruz was taken into custody for a first-degree murder charge.

The shooting happened at about 12:50 a.m. Thursday, which was just minutes after another shooting on the other side of town. The sheriff's office said Cruz fired multiple shots at a victim in the parking lot of a convenience store near 2800 E. Fountain Boulevard.

The victim died at the scene despite life-saving efforts. The sheriff's office identified the victim Friday as 31-year-old Dominique Smith of Colorado Springs.

The case is still under investigation, according to the sheriff's office. We're working on getting more information on the alleged killing, check back for updates.
