Woman convicted of murdering two men and dumping bodies off cliff in Fremont County

FREMONT COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- A woman has been convicted of murder four years after killing two people and dumping their bodies over a cliff in Fremont County.

According to the 12th Judicial District Attorney's (DA) Office, a Fremont County jury found Toni Gurule guilty on two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of accessory to murder. Gurule was originally arrested in 2024 in Arizona.

According to officials, Gurule murdered Rodulfo "Rudy" Santillan-Reyes and Ryan Roth in the early morning of February 8, 2022. The DA's office says Santillan-Reyes and Roth were murdered after Gurule became upset with a song recorded by Roth that insulted her and her wife, Suzzette Salyer.

The DA's office says Santillan-Reyes was shot three times by two separate firearms and then struck on the head with a metal wrench. Roth was shot one time. Their bodies were discovered hours after the murders at the bottom of a cliff in Phantom Canyon when people spotted a piece of clothing Roth had been wearing. Both men were found bound with zip ties, according to the DA's office.

Gurule's wife, Salyer, had previously pled guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. A third person, Anthony Fogle, whom the DA's office says was brought in to provide "muscle," testified in Gurule's trial in exchange for a sentence reduction on his guilty plea to second-degree murder.

"Ms. Gurule and her defense team messed around and found out," DA Anne Kelly said in a press release. "Colorado prosecutors will move mountains to obtain justice for the families of murder victims in this State. Our small but mighty team with the critical assistance of the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation fought hard to provide Ryan and Rudy’s families with some measure of peace four years after their devastating loss."

Gurule will be sentenced in the beginning of November.
