Woman arrested in husband and wife duo fraud case in El Paso County
EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- In an update to a case KRDO first covered last month about a man arrested on charges related to identity fraud, we're now learning that his wife has been taken into custody as well.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office arrested 43-year-old Ryan Carneal over two weeks ago, but investigators were still looking for his wife who was wanted on similar offenses.
Now, 41-year-old Tarry Carneal is in custody as well. The sheriff's office said she was arrested Friday with help from the Colorado Springs Police Department.
Ryan Carneal assumed the identity of an El Paso County citizen and used it to fraudulently purchase a vehicle, apply for loans and open other lines of credit. Detectives say his wife helped him to defraud businesses and car dealerships.
Tarry Carneal is facing the following charges:
- Forgery - Government Instrument Issued Document
- Criminal Possession of Forged Instrument - 2 counts
- Criminal Impersonation - 4 counts
- Identity Theft - 7 counts
- Forgery Check / Commercial Instrument - 4 counts
- Theft over $750 to Less Than 2K
- Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance
- Defrauding a Secured Creditor/Debtor 20K to Less Than 100K
- First Degree Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft Less Than 20K
- Criminal Possession of a Financial Device
