Pueblo man sentenced after explosive device found in his vehicle later detonated, injuring two officers

PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- A 48-year-old has been sentenced to two years after taking a plea agreement in a case where he was alledgly found in possession of drugs and an explosive device, according to the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office (PCSO).

PCSO says Clay Nimmo pled guilty to a felony charge of possession of an incendiary device on Aug. 12. Law enforcement says that Nimmo's drug charges were dropped as part of a plea agreement.

According to PCSO, back in January, deputies conducted a traffic stop and noticed drug paraphernalia in Nimmo's vehicle. When detectives were searching the vehicle, they alledgly found drugs and explosive material, says PCSO.

Later in February, two members of the Pueblo Metro Bomb Team were injured when the explosive device went off as officers were trying to render it safe and take it in for evidence, officials said.

One officer sustained second-degree burns and the other third-degree burns, according to a city spokesperson. PCSO says both officer are recovering from their injuries.
