Residents share the horrors of finding bullet holes in their Colorado Springs trailer, 140+ casings found

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Multiple Colorado Springs residents are picking up glass from broken car windows, and reeling from finding dozens of bullet holes in their homes and trailers.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, October 22, Colorado Springs Police (CSPD) received several shooting calls in southeast Colorado Springs.

Those calls came from multiple locations hours apart, at the El Morro Mobile Estates, a home at the 800 block of Riverview Ln, and at the Copper Creek Apartments. 13 Investigates spoke with Lawrence Thomas and Geana Kline, who live at a trailer located inside the El Morro Mobile Estates.

Their trailer was shot up with dozens of bullet holes now leaving a mark on their property and on the people who reside inside.

"I was almost in tears telling you, you are so lucky they didn't shoot your son because he was sleeping inside," Klein said.

Thomas' young son was sleeping mere feet away from where the barrage of bullets entered their trailer in the early morning hours. Now, their family is left to pick up the pieces and wonder why someone would want to target them.

"We don't know. We haven't done anything to anybody. We haven't made any mad. We keep to ourselves. I don't know exactly why somebody would do this," Kline said.

Colorado Springs Police say they recovered over 70 spent shell casings on the street bordering their trailer, and are still piecing together who is responsible.

Approximately twenty minutes before the shooting at the El Morro Mobile Estates, another home was littered with bullet holes off of Riverview Ln. There, 13 Investigates obtained surveillance video from their home, which shows four people exiting a sedan and beginning to fire from multiple guns at their home.

They, like Thomas and Kline, have no idea why they would be the target of such a violent outburst. Their home and two cars now have noticeable damage, including broken windows and flat tires from being struck by bullets.

All of the victims tell 13 Investigates they recovered and turned over to CSPD bullet casings that are from a 9-millimeter automatic weapon, which they presume to be a Uzi-like weapon.

The security camera video shows a younger male's voice announcing that the home has a "ring" video camera system moments before they fired dozens of shots into the home. The gunfire goes on 15 seconds before it stops and they calmly re-entered the vehicle and drove away.

Thomas and Kline suspect that the shooters targeted the wrong trailer, and meant to target a different trailer inside the El Morro Mobile Estates.

"It feels like a gang hit, but I don't know for certain," Kline said.

Now, they are left to pick up the pieces and repair thousands of dollars in damage to their home and car.

It's going to take a while to rebuild," Thomas said.

CSPD says they are looking into whether these shootings were at all connected, or if they involve the same suspects. Their detectives are still collecting evidence, and encourage anyone else impacted by this violence to reach out to them as soon as possible.

The victims impacted hope that they can find who's responsible and bring them to justice swiftly.

"This is not right. Yeah. I mean, if somebody did this to you, what would your response be," Kline questioned.
