Police scanner explains timeline of the shooting in Security-Widefield that left three dead

SECURITY-WIDEFIELD, Colo. (KRDO) -- Police radio provides a timeline for the shooting that occurred in the Security-Widefield area Sunday. While the radio transmissions remain unconfirmed by investigators, the transmissions provide a real-time account of what law enforcement was encountering on the scene.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, two deputies and an officer with the Fountain Police Department responded to the 500 block of Ponderosa Dr. at 5:05 p.m. for reports of shots fired.

When law enforcement arrived, the EPCSO said they were immediately met with gunfire. Scanner traffic confirms shots were fired just two minutes into responding to the scene.

That's when 39-year-old Dep. Andrew Peery was hit. The second deputy at the scene immediately reports that Dep. Peery had been hit and another person at the property, later identified as Alex Paz, had been shot.

The deputy radios back to dispatch that Dep. Peery had fallen by his car and was on the ground. That deputy, however, said he couldn't get to Dep. Peery because the suspect was still shooting through the living room window.

The suspect, identified as 33-year-old John Paz, was found later inside of the house dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Eventually, law enforcement was able to get to Dep. Peery was loaded into a vehicle, not an ambulance, and he was rushed to UCHealth Memorial Central. Unfortunately, Dep. Peery did not survive his injuries.

When SWAT breached the house, there were no signs of life inside.

The investigation into what happened the evening of Aug. 7 is still underway.
