Cut your own tulip field opens in Monument

KRDO

MONUMENT, Colo. (KRDO) -- Colorado's first cut-your-own tulip field opened Thursday in Monument.

Kimberlee Bush started tulip trials in the fall of 2020 and harvested 1,700 tulips in the springs of 2021 at the Colorado Kids Ranch.

In the fall of 2021, 28,000 tulip bulbs were planted and now are ready to be cut. Growing tulips in Colorado comes with some challenges that include altitude, wind, and inconsistent weather.

From Thursday through Sunday, people can go to Colorado Kids Ranch to cut tulips from 9 a.m. until 5 pm. at 18065 Saddlewood Rd.

There will also be activities for kids on the property, which include outdoor games, pony rides, a jumping pillow, and an animal petting area.

Admission is $7 and tulips are $2 per, 6 for $10, and 12 for $15.
