Pueblo Man Identified in Denver Police Shooting

DENVER, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner identified 30-year-old Duane Manzanares as the man who died in a police shooting on Sunday afternoon in Denver.

On June 13, Denver police responded to the area of East Colfax Ave. and Uinta St. around 5:30 p.m. Officers had received reports of a man firing shots into a vehicle.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the man suspected of firing the shots on Yosemite St. Officers approached the man, who they say had a gun in his waistband. According to DPD, the man threatened officers with the weapon.

Moments later, DPD officers fired multiple shots at the subject, later identified as Manzanares. Officers then began providing aid before he was taken to an area hospital.

On Monday, DPD confirmed Manzanares was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Manzanares families account of what happened on Sunday night is very different than Denver Police's briefings.

"Right now all I want is justice. I want justice for my son," Maryann Medina-Trujillo said. "His baby is eight years old fighting leukemia right now, and he has no daddy anymore. I just want justice. His hands were up and i just want justice for what they have done."

Denver Police gave an updated on the situation today at 2:30 P.M.

Commander Matt Clark said, ""The officers told the subject to put his hands on his head, and they also directed him not to reach for the handgun that was visible in his waistband."

"They recognized that he was not complying to their direction, and they concerned that we was going to draw and fire the handgun at the officers as he moved his hands towards his waist."

Watch Tuesday's DPD briefing below:

The three officers involved in the shooting have been placed on a modified duty assignment, according to Denver Police.
