Delays and closure at Gold Camp Road to remove boulder that fell in April

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Gold Camp Road will see delays on Thursday and full closure on Friday to allow crews time to remove a boulder that fell on the road in April.

On April 25, a large boulder fell on the road, blocking passage for cars. Now, crews from the Pike and San Isabel National Forests Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands Pikes Peak Ranger District and Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services will work to remove the boulder.

This closure is affecting the Upper Columbine Trail in the vicinity of tunnel 2. Cheyenne Cañon Park will also be closed while crews work.

According to the USDA, people can expect up to one-hour delays in traffic on Thursday. The road will be completely closed Friday.

The city had already planned temporary closures of Gold Camp Road between May 3 and 28 to improve and expand the existing gravel parking lot uphill of Helen Hunt Falls.
