Local food pantry serving Southeast Colorado Springs
SECURITY, Colo. (KRDO) -The Care Center at Pikes Peak Christian Church wants the community to know its food pantry is open for service, mostly serving the Southeast side of Colorado Springs.
While some food pantries may have seen an influx of residents asking for food assistance, that has not been the case at the Care Center at Pikes Peak Christian Church. According to Romy Gonzalez, who also oversees their food pantry, the center went from seeing 40 families a week to 40-60 families a month.
She believes the reason for this could be because people are fearful. One of the reasons people might be fearful is due to the COVID-19 virus, while others have expressed their immigration status might be a factor. Gonzalez would like to clarify that when they asked families for information, they are simply asking for name, phone number, address, and the number of people in their family. This is so they can distinguish how much food they need to distribute to each family.
The Care Center Food Pantry is open Monday & Wednesday from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
