DENVER, Colo. (AP) -- The mother of a 7-year-old boy whose body was found encased in concrete in a Denver storage unit in 2018 has been sentenced to 32 years in prison for his role in his death.

Wednesday's sentence for Elisha Pankey was the maximum she faced after pleading guilty to a felony charge of child abuse resulting in death. Her lawyer said her life had spiraled out of control in the year before Caden McWilliams died but that she took full responsibility for her part in his death.

Caden's father, Leland Pankey, was sentenced to 72 years in prison in February after pleading guilty.
