Fire Breaks Out at Regency Tower Building in Colorado Springs

A plume of smoke was spotted at the Regency Tower apartment complex in Colorado Springs around 11 a.m. and firefighters were called to extinguish an active fire.

Numerous Colorado Springs Fire Department units are at the scene. The complex is located at 921 Green Star Drive off South 8th Street in Colorado Springs. It’s a community for residents age 55 and older.

The fire was contained to the 10th floor, starting on the west side of the building and moving to the east. CSFD said these types of fires are “fairly rare.”

WATCH:

Two people were taken to the hospital, but their injuries were reported to be minor, according to CSFD. The department says all residents are being displaced due to building damage and lack of utilities.

CSFD says it was a four-alarm fire. The majority of the fire has been extinguished, and firefighters said there was no “active fire” as of about 12:40 p.m.

The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined. Investigators will be going floor by floor while gathering information.

One witness at the scene reported that there aren’t sprinklers installed throughout the building.

A fundraiser has been started for those impacted by the fire, you can find out more here.
