Colorado authors write second COVID-19 children’s book

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Following the success of their book, "Lilly and Timmy's Super, Awesome, Incredible, COVID-19 B-Day", authors Mike Farrell and Jacob Horn have written a sequel.

Farrell is a graduate of Liberty high school in Colorado Springs, while Horn lives in Colorado.

The story follows our two young heroes as the start a very different school year, thanks to the pandemic.

"We thought: We know they're going back to school. We don't know exactly what that's going to look like, but we can take a guess and make some interesting comedic choices that people are going to appreciate," Farrell says.

"The kids go back to school, and there are a few changes from the other school years," Horn says. "They have some minions, some hazmat suit wearing minions, that are checking all the kids temperatures."

"We definitely have some jokes in there for the kids, but we have sprinkled many more jokes for the parents in this book. I don't want to say this is a book that's for the parents, but there's definitely a lot of jokes in there for the parentals in this."

The books are a snapshot of history as it unfolds, showing us the COVID-19 world through the eyes of small children who don't necessarily understand what's going on. Years from now, the books will be part of a record as to what life was like.

"I think history is one of those weird things where you don't realize the relevance of that until you're looking back at it 10 years later," Farrell says. "If people are going to reference these as the edgy children's books that provided a fresh comedic take on history, then yeah that'd be awesome."

"It's always nice to be able to share a laugh, to escape for 30 or 45 minutes," says Horn. "Parents can take the children to the living room and they can all get in a circle and sit there together with the book and they all can kind of escape."
