Colorado Springs youth basketball program aims to help underprivileged kids
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Like father, like son -- it's fitting that Terrell Brown is running a youth basketball program in Colorado Springs considering his father, Nathan, served as a youth basketball coach in the city's southeast side more than 20 years ago.
Brown credits his father's mentoring and the game of basketball for giving him a renewed outlook on life. Now, he's continuing that with Hillside Connection.
Hillside Connection provides a variety of youth basketball camps throughout the year, and the programs are offered free of charge thanks to generous donations from the community and Brown's efforts.
"Growing up here, just seeing the huge need, and that divide between the haves and the have-nots, or the kind of kid who has that passion, but maybe not the resources to develop that. I just felt, not so much obligated, but that's what God put in my heart - to return back and help as many kids as possible," Brown said.
