Child killed, several injured after crash involving stolen vehicle in Aurora, juvenile arrested

AURORA, Colo. (KRDO) -- Aurora Police Department arrested a 15-year-old after a child died and 10 others were hurt in a crash involving a stolen SUV in Aurora, according to 9NEWS.

According to police, the crash happened around 7:16 p.m. on Saturday night at South Buckley Road and East Kent Drive.

A total of 11 people were transported to the hospital, including a 12-year-old girl. Police said the girl died of her injuries.

According to investigators, they believe the 15-year-old was driving a Dodge Journey while speeding north on South Buckley Road. Police said the driver of a Toyota Tacoma was turning left onto East Kent Drive when the Dodge hit its passenger side.

Earlier Saturday afternoon, the Dodge was reported stolen from a neighborhood in the area of Iliff Avenue and Buckley Road.

Police said there were eight juveniles inside the Dodge:

  • A 16-year-old boy
  • A 16-year-old girl
  • Three 15-year-old boys, including the driver
  • A 14-year-old girl
  • A 13-year-old girl
  • A 12-year-old girl

Seven juveniles were transported to the hospital, some suffering with life-threatening injuries. The eighth person didn't receive treatment at the hospital.

According to police, they believe the 15-year-old driver was impaired during the crash. They were arrested on an outstanding warrant. Additional charges in connection to the crash are pending.

Police said a 15-year-old passenger was also arrested on a warrant.
