Another Trinidad man charged for Jan. 6 US Capitol riot
TRINIDAD, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Federal Bureau of Investigation has identified another man from Trinidad, Colorado, as a suspect involved in the illegal protest at the US Capitol on Jan. 6.
According to court documents obtained by KRDO Friday, the FBI says Timothy Wayne Williams of Trinidad is facing four federal charges in connection with the insurrection after he was caught on video inside the Capitol.
Williams is the second man from the small mountain town near the Colorado-New Mexico border to be identified as a suspect by the FBI. In late April, Jacob Travis Clark was charged and accused of getting into verbal altercations with security inside the Capitol.
According to an affidavit for Williams arrest, the FBI interviewed Williams at his home in Trinidad on March 17, and he admitted to being inside the US Capitol. The affidavit also shows several pictures of Williams in various places inside the Capitol, including the Rotunda.
Williams was partly identified by the FBI matching his driver license photo and by the hat he was wearing for a indoor grow supply company. Williams told the FBI agent during the interview that he had previously worked for a hydroponics equipment supplier in Trinidad, but he had lost his job because he wouldn't take a COVID test.
According to the affidavit, Williams claims he got pushed inside the Capitol by the crowd, but the photos show him in several places.
Williams allegedly joined in chants with the crowd toward law enforcement officers, and he was also near an individual who threw a fire extinguisher above the crowd.
Williams told the FBI he wasn't involved with any "acts of violence or property damage," and he said he didn't take anything from the Capitol, according to court documents. The FBI didn't say if that account was verified.
The FBI says Williams is facing two counts of Knowingly Entering or Remaining in any Restricted Building or Grounds Without Lawful Authority, one count of disorderly or disruptive conduct, at any place in the Grounds or in any of the
Capitol Buildings, and one count of parade, demonstrate, or picket in any of the Capitol Buildings.
Colorado jail records didn't show Williams in custody as of Friday.
