TRINIDAD, Colo. (KRDO) -- A man from Trinidad is facing multiple federal charges in connection with the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, and pictures released by the US Department of Justice appear to show him engaging with and intimidating Capitol Police officers inside the building.

According to a complaint obtained by KRDO this week, Jacob Travis Clark of Trinidad is accused of entering the US Capitol building along with other protestors allegedly attempting to disrupt Congress as it certified votes from the 2020 presidential election. Clark is among numerous Coloradans who have been arrested in connection with the insurrection.

The FBI has been searching for information on suspect who were seen on surveillance cameras inside the Capitol. According to a complaint filed by an FBI agent Thursday in the Denver District Court, Clark was identified by a witness who recognized him in several photos taken inside the Capitol.

The FBI included several pictures of Clark in the complaint as he joined a group that entered the building.

In one part of the surveillance video, Clark is seen picking up a book or binder and then talks to a plainclothes Capitol Police officer.

The complaint says Clark drops the book near where he picked it up, but then joins a group that attempts to gain access through a secondary door. According to the complaint, the group "engages in some shoving and punching with the officers." It's not clear if Clark punched or shoved an officer as part of the group.

However, at one part of the surveillance video, Clark appears to "square up with a Capitol Police officer wearing plain clothes as three other officers retreat from the group," according to the complaint. Before any fighting happens, the officer retreats off the screen, and Clark exits the camera frame.

After a few minutes, Clark is seen again "using intimidating language," according to one of the officers' report in the complaint. Clark appears to make gestures "indicating the officers need to move," and the officers begin retreating backwards in the hallway as the crowd followed.

Clark then leaves that group and he's seen interacting with an officer. The complaint says Clark "put his hands on an officer and states, 'Next time we're coming with [unintelligible.]'"

The officers told Clark "they're just doing their jobs," according to the complaint. Clark then responded by screaming, "So were the Nazis!" and "Stand down!"

Another surveillance video captured images of Clark using a cell phone, and a witness told investigators that Clark called his brother and "bragged" that he was inside the Capitol during the protest, according to the complaint.

FBI investigators reported they looked through cell phone data and tower records and were able to determine that Clark's Google location data placed him inside the Capitol from about 2:15 p.m. to 3:25 p.m.

According to the complaint, Clark faces the following charges:

  • 18 U.S.C. § 1752(a)(1) - Knowingly Entering or Remaining in any Restricted Building or Grounds Without
  • Lawful Authority,
  • 18 U.S.C. § 1752(a)(2) - Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds,
  • 18 U.S.C. § 1752(a)(4) - Engaging in Physical Violence in a Restricted Building or Grounds,
  • 40 U.S.C. § 5104(e)(2) - Violent Entry and Disorderly Conduct on Capitol Grounds,
  • 18 U.S.C. § 231(a)(3) - Obstruction of Law Enforcement During Civil Disorder,
  • 18 U.S.C. § 1512(c)(2) - Obstruction of Justice/Congress.

According to jail records, Clark was taken into custody by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office and has since been transferred. We're working on getting more information.
