Colorado Healing Fund raises $4.3 million after Boulder grocery store shooting, only $8,200 after Colorado Springs shooting
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- It's been about a week since the Colorado Healing Fund was activated to help the victims and family members of those killed in a mass shooting at a Colorado Springs birthday party, but donations to the fund are paltry compared to what was donated following a mass shooting at a Boulder King Soopers.
According to Jordan Finegan, Executive Director for the Colorado Healing Fund, a total of about $8,200 had been raised in response to the shooting at Canterbury Mobile Home Park in Colorado Springs. Six people lost their lives in a shooting in the early morning hours on Mother's Day.
The Colorado Healing Fund was also activated in response to the shooting in Boulder in March when 10 people were killed by a gunman before he was taken into custody. Donors contributed about $4.3 million after that tragedy, including a $1 million donation from King Soopers.
The CHF was founded in 2018 to provide an official method to donate to victims and those affected by mass violence events. You can donate to either fundraiser through its website.
We're speaking with Finegan on Wednesday to learn more about what might be leading to the vast discrepancy between the two fundraisers. Watch KRDO on Wednesday for the update.
