COVID-19 outbreak reported at 2nd assisted living facility in Pueblo County

KRDO

PUEBLO WEST, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Pueblo Department of Public Health says that three residents and one staff member at Columbine Chateau have tested positive for COVID-19.

The four cases tested positive Saturday, according to a release sent to KRDO Tuesday.

According to the state health department, an outbreak at a healthcare facility is defined as two or more confirmed cases within two weeks.

This is the second outbreak at an assisted living facility after four staffers and six residents at Brookdale El Camino senior living tested positive back in April.

Pueblo public health says it has now made a formal request to the state health department to provide testing for all staff and residents. The Colorado Department of Health and Environment will be shipping the test materials directly to the facility. It's not clear how long it will be before the testing happens.

Now, Pueblo public health is working with Columbine Chateau to ensure proper mitigation tactics are being followed to prevent further spread.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this article erroneously said this was the 2nd outbreak in the city of Pueblo.
