Safeway and Catholic Charities serving Thanksgiving dinner to 8,000 people
Thanks to a generous donation by Safeway Wednesday morning anywhere from 5,000 to 7,000 people will be able to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner.
Heather Halpape, a Safeway Spokesperson said, “Each meal has a frozen turkey breast, about a 7-pound turkey breast. It also has mashed potatoes, gravy, and stuffing. So it’s all the components that families can easily put together and have a really nice Thanksgiving.”
Each meal should serve about four to five people which means. Julio Fiallo and his wife have four kids, if it wasn’t for this donation they would not be having a turkey dinner this Thanksgiving.
“Thank you, Safeway, for the food and for helping this family, thank you so much,” said Fiallo.
Once unloaded, Marian House Staff will hand-deliver the meals to families in need throughout the Central Colorado area.
Andy Barton, CEO of Catholic Charities said, “As I said, it’s important for us but I think it’s really important for those moms, dads, and kids that will be able to sit around the table this Thanksgiving.”
The meals were paid for by customers of Safeway who have been contributing toward the meals through Turkey Bucks donations. This is now the 6th year that the program has supported Catholic Charities.
