BOULDER, Colo. (KRDO) -- Boulder Police Officer Eric Talley was one of the victims in a deadly rampage inside a King Soopers last week, giving his life while trying to save others from a gunman.
Tuesday, thousands of people and civil servants lined the streets for a procession and public memorial funeral to honor Talley's memory.
Talley, 51, had been with the Boulder Police Department since 2010 and was one of the first police officers on the scene at a southside King Soopers last Monday when a gunman opened fire.
Nine other people were also killed in the rampage.
The Boulder Police Department says no other civilian lives were lost after Talley entered the store.
"There is no doubt because of his quick action and bravery, dozens of innocent lives were saved," said Boulder Police Chief Maris Herold.
Gov. Jared Polis also spoke at Officer Talley's memorial service Tuesday.
"If there’s one thing that’s abundantly clear, it’s how much he loved his family, his wife, his children," said Gov. Polis.
A friend remembers Officer Talley as optimistic even in the face of danger.
"Eric had this ability to make others feel better about themselves, to feel like they were a better person for just having been around him," said Chris Tuner. "By giving 100% of himself, you always knew what you were getting with Eric. All in, 100%, a hero.”
Since the shooting, memorials have sprung up outside of the grocery store and at the Boulder Police Department.
Talley's public funeral was held at Flatirons Church in Lafayette. A traditional Catholic funeral Mass was held for Talley on Monday.

Numerous police departments lined the road to give a final salute to Talley as the procession passes on its way to the church.
