Otero County detention deputy arrested after investigation into criminal mischief

OTERO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- An Otero County detention deputy was arrested today by the La Junta Police Department (LJPD) for criminal mischief (domestic violence).

According to the Otero County Sheriff, Shawn Mobley, Valarie Alvarez was arrested and booked into the Otero County jail on Monday, July 13.

The arrest was made by LJPD after an investigation into an incident from April of this year, according to officials.

Mobley says Alvarez's employment was being terminated immediately for violation of the law, but also several sections of the sheriff's office policy.
