Kidnapping victim in Peyton found safe, neighbors react
PEYTON, Colo (KRDO) - We’re learning more from neighbors, after a 24-year-old man was taken by gunpoint during an alleged armed robbery in a house full of children in Peyton last week.
Investigators say four men - all dressed in jeans and black shirts - broke into a home near 18700 Birdseye View, and assaulted 2 out of 5 children inside around 8 o’clock Friday night.
We stopped by the house on Monday where neighbors say it happened, but no one answered the battered door.
Detectives say Karel Lopez-Hurtado, who was taken at gunpoint, has since been found safe.
The Sheriff’s Office say they can’t tell us where Hurtado was found, because that information is part of their ongoing investigation.
“That’s not normal for here,” Ed Holmes, who lives a few houses down, told us.
He says the neighborhood is tight knit, but the home where the robbery happened is a rental property owned by a man who lives in Colorado Springs.
“He’s just been renting it here and there and so a lot of different people over the year that I’ve been here,” Holmes said.
He says Hurtado and his family moved in last month, but they've kept to themselves.
“Nobody knows them so that tells me that they’re not knocking on doors and getting to know the neighborhood,” said Holmes.
When we asked how the armed robbery made him feel, being so close by, Ed said he isn’t the least bit nervous. He believes investigators who say this was targeted.
“Everybody here hunts and has guns and all that so, just to come randomly out here and trying to rob somebody at gunpoint would be really silly. Those people probably knew who lived there and what they were doing,” Ed explained.
Anyone with information on the four suspects who are still out there, and are considered armed and dangerous, should give the sheriff’s office a call.
