“She’s my hero,” hear the story of the man who survived a destructive mobile home fire

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - Lynn 'Doc' Greschky has lived in Colorado Springs off and on since 1967, but his time under America's Mountain was nearly cut short after a devastating mobile home fire.

Tonight, he's sharing his story and gratitude to the woman who saved his life, while hoping his tale might save someone else down the line.

When asked about the night of October 29 to the early morning of October 30, Doc doesn't have all the details.

"I remember falling asleep in my recliner and, next thing I knew, there was fire around me, and, you know, I thought I was in a dream," Doc said.

However, one thing he does know is who saved his life.

"My neighbor, come running, from across the street," Doc recalled," In a sweat and slippers. That's all I can remember seeing on that. But, tried them, picked me up, and I'm a little too big for her."

But she wasn't deterred, eventually dragging Doc across a dirt road to safety.

"She's my hero. Amanda's my hero. I know she didn't want to be on TV, but she's a hero in my book."

"God, I'll never forget her. Takes a, takes a hell of a lot of a person that come and did what she did. Dragging me out of that burning trailer."

Now, Penrose Hospital will be Doc's home for the foreseeable future. The mobile home that he called home, filled with 20 years of belongings and memories, went up in flames, but he didn't.

He's hoping his story can save others' lives because they might not be as lucky.

"You don't need a cigarette that bad if you're that tired. It could cost your life," Doc advised.

"Remember, we only got one life to give, and I almost gave it up, and it ain't worth it."

Neighbors have started a GoFundMe to support Doc as he rebuilds and recovers. You can donate here.
