Repeat offender in Colorado Springs found guilty on numerous federal drug trafficking, firearm charges
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) – A Colorado Springs repeat offender that local police had previously called "violent" was found guilty on numerous federal drug and firearm charges on Friday.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Colorado, on July 18, a jury found Nathan James Meek guilty of the following charges:
- Possession with intent to distribute fentanyl
- Possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine
- Possession with intent to distribute cocaine
- Possession with intent to distribute marijuana
- Possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon
- Conspiracy to distribute controlled substances
- Possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.
The U.S. Attorney's Office said that, according to evidence presented at trial, Meek had sold a large amount of narcotics in Colorado Springs, including methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, and marijuana.
Meek was arrested on Jan. 18, 2024. At the time, he had multiple felony warrants out for his arrest for alleged burglary, assault, and menacing.
When officers arrived at Meek's southeast Colorado Springs apartment, CSPD said he ran from them. When he was captured, police found a stolen gun, fentanyl pills, meth, and money on him.
Officers then obtained a search warrant for the apartment, where they recovered over 2,000 grams of methamphetamine, 131 grams of fentanyl, 80 grams of cocaine, 698 grams of marijuana, and three firearms.
The U.S. Attorney's Office said Meek’s cell phone also contained records of drug-related communications dating from Jan. 1, 2024, through the time of his arrest.
His arrest came just two years after he was released from prison, three years into an eight-year sentence for possession of drugs with the intent to distribute.
Meek's alleged criminal history doesn't stop at drug and firearm charges. Court records obtained by KRDO13 Investigates in March 2024 show Meek allegedly "pistol-whipped" a woman he was seeing in December 2023. The arrest documents also say Meek threatened to "kill" the woman he allegedly assaulted.

In March 2024, just a day before Meek could bond out of jail for the state drug charges, the U.S. Attorney's Office indicted him on the federal charges he has now been found guilty of.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation collaborated with the Colorado Springs Police Department to investigate the case, and the prosecution was handled by the Violent Crimes and Immigration Section at the U.S. Attorney's Office.
