Colorado Springs Police arrest suspect tied to Doherty High School secured-status incident
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - Doherty High School was on a security status for a second time in as many days as the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) searched for a suspect tied to an off-campus incident on Nov. 7.
On Nov. 7, CSPD says that several students were off campus for lunch when they encountered an unidentified male engaged in an altercation with another person. The suspect produced and brandished a handgun and pointed it at several students who were near the altercation. Those students reported to security and the School Resource Officer at Doherty High School.
CSPD then searched the area with the assistance of K-9 units and other specialized personnel. Despite search efforts, CSPD says that no suspect was located.
Police confirmed that they were back in the area today, Nov. 8, searching the area for the same suspect.
Out of caution, Doherty was put on hold as CSPD officers went inside the school to gather information.
There, they determined the suspect was not in the school and stated there was no threat to the campus.
At the same time, other officers went to the suspect's home to continue investigation efforts. There they determined the suspect was inside the home and reported taking him into custody without incident.
The suspect is an adult man but as of now, his identity has not been released and Doherty's secure status has been lifted.
