COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Friday, pet owners and animal lovers alike are invited to the 15th annual Bark at Briargate. Organizers say this family-friendly event is focused on fun and consciously pairing the right pet with the right owner.

The event's goal is to bring much-needed resources to people looking to adopt, looking for dog training, and those looking for more information on service or therapy animals.

A wide variety of pet-friendly vendors will be on-site sharing their resources. Whether it's finding a perfect match to adopt a pup, looking into training for a newly adopted furry family member, or just looking to have a good time.

The organization Muttmasters will be running an agility course. There will also be free activities, giveaways, and training demonstrations.

National Mill Dog Rescue will be on-site with adoptable dogs. Its mission is to rescue discarded breeding dogs from puppy mills to receive rehabilitation and medical care before being adopted to loving, forever homes. The organization believes that dogs should be cherished by family members, not used for profit.

The organization says there is a common misconception that rescue or shelter dogs are damaged. But with the right training and love, they can be very loving companions.

"For us to be able to host this and find these pets their forever homes with the resources provided is a great mission for us and we're really happy to feature these nonprofits," Promenade Shops at Briargate Management Assistant Marie Fe Woods said.

One of the nonprofits in attendance, Help Autism, also helps people with special needs utilize resources to find the right service or therapy dog.

It will be located at Pikes Peak Patio next to Ted's Montana Grill at the Promenade Shops at Briargate. The Promenade Shops is a pet-friendly shopping center where pets are welcome in most stores as well as on all patios at restaurants.

The event begins at 3 p.m. and runs until 7 p.m. Below is a view of the location:

The event will return to the Promenade Shops at Briargate Friday, September 23.
