Guardians with Schriever Space Force Base prepare for first mission
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Wednesday, Guardians from Schriever Space Force Base participated in a specialized operation aimed at preparing them ahead of their first mission. The practice run is to make sure they're prepared for critical and reliable communication during wartime.
Officials told KRDO that one of the most important elements for the military in a time of conflict especially is communication.
Most of the satellites used in military communication are locked and land and their locations are known to U.S. adversaries. This leaves them vulnerable to attack in a time of war.
The Mobile Constellation Control Station (MCCS) is a mobile communication system that can be deployed anywhere in the world at a moment's notice to provide secure and sustainable communication for the top leaders of the U.S. military.
“The MCCS — this asset — is responsible for wartime command and control of the most critical strategic networks used by the President of the United States and the nuclear command control architecture," Lt. Adam Morgan said.
The team of 13 took off from Peterson Space Force Base to an undisclosed location somewhere in the U.S.
For many, this will be one of many of their first duty assignments. Still, Lt. Morgan said the team is up to the task.
