Court Docs: El Paso County man asked victim ‘do you want to die’ during assault

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- An El Paso County man faces multiple charges, including First Degree Murder. Now, court documents obtained by KRDO shed light on the investigation.

On August 15, officers with the Fountain Police Department responded to reports of an overdose in the 9000 block of Squirrel Creek Rd. With the location being within the El Paso County Sheriff's Office's (EPCSO) jurisdiction, detectives also responded to the scene.

According to the sheriff's office, investigators found a deceased woman at the scene. She was later identified as 43-year-old Lisa Weidlich.

The suspect, Dennis Hase, was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Jail.

According to an arrest affidavit, Hase told investigators he had been fighting with the victim earlier in the day. After they had spent the day at a friend's house, he and Weidlich returned to their shared residence around 8 p.m.

The affidavit states they shared the property, but Weidlich lived in a bus trailer and Hase lived in an 18-foot travel trailer.

Hase told investigators he had been an in "intimate relationship" with Weidlich "on again and off again" for the last two years.

According to the affidavit, while arguing, Hase said he slapped Weidlic across her face at least six times, punched her in the face and chin, pushed on her chest, put his hands around her neck and pushed on her throat, pinched the victim's nose closed with his hand, and covered her mouth with his hand.

While doing this, he told her "are you going to talk to me now" and "is this what you want?" He also told investigators he had asked her, "do you want to die?"

Hase told investigators most of the assault took place in Weidlich's trailer on a mattress. After that happened, he said they both went to sleep. At this point, she was reportedly bleeding from her nose.

According to the affidavit, Hase said he woke up around 3 a.m. and noticed that she wasn't moving. He said Weidlich's "face was bloated and bruised and her eyes were swollen shut" and there were "purple marks around her neck and bruising on her abdomen."

Because the trailer was very dark, he told investigators he moved her body outside to the hood of his truck. That's when he checked for a pulse and breathing, but couldn't detect either.

Hase's first court appearance is set for Aug. 26, 2022.
