Commemoration of the 10th anniversary of Waldo Canyon Fire held Sunday at Flying W Ranch
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A private event to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Waldo Canyon Fire was held Sunday afternoon at the Flying W Ranch, put on by the Mountain Shadows Community Association.
The fire killed William and Barbara Everett, destroyed nearly 350 homes and the Flying W Ranch.
The event was for residents of Mountain Shadows and had live music, activities, displays by the Colorado Springs Fire and Police Departments, and food.
“Ten years ago when the Waldo Canyon Fire destroyed our neighborhood, we had little hope. The day after the fire came into the neighborhood Mayor Bach and Bob Cutter began to build a citizen-led non-profit to help coordinate the rebuilding and recovery of Mountain Shadows. Thanks to their efforts along with the resilience, strength and commitment of the Mountain Shadows residents, our neighborhood has not only been rebuilt, but it has also been renewed,” said Eddie Hurt, Past-President of MSCA.
Mountain Shadows Community Association is a non-profit comprised of volunteer residents whose goal is to coordinate, collaborate and communicate on behalf of the Mountain Shadows neighborhood.
