Woman completes 19 laps in 24 hours of Manitou-Incline, breaking record

Woman breaks Manitou-Incline record with 19 laps in 24 hours

MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo., (KRDO) -- A Golden woman broke the record for laps made at the Manitou Incline within a 24-hour-period. Tuesday, Andrea Sansone completed 19 laps. The previous record by a woman was 13.

Making the one-mile trek requires people to climb 2,768 steps. Sansone, however, endured climbing more than 52,000 steps during her record-breaking hike.

This accomplishment also put her on the list of "Incline Records: Best of the Best."

"We really love the quote, 'Be not afraid of going slowly, be only afraid of standing still,'" said Sansone.

That's a quote that she and her fiancé live by. She credits her fiancé Andrew for her mental strength through mountaineering adventures.

"I really cramped in a lot of training in a four-week period, so that's how I thought about it, I am just trying to see how many I can do in 24 hours," added Sansone.

After breaking her foot in April, she made it a priority to recover quickly and told herself she would do this incline as her 'big comeback.'

"An incline in 24-hours is really mental so I knew that if my fitness was there enough to where I can do a seven-minute run I was fit enough and I can do it--it really is just trying to stay positive and keep going," said Sansone.

She says pacing was crucial to making it through a night of climbing. Despite how tough it was, Sansone said she pushed through after completing lap 18.

"You don't want to regrets, you don't want to say 'I should have done that last lap' you kinda have to put this wall up and just go because you can do it, your mind just has to be there," added Sansone.

She will now be added to the 'Incline Records, Best of the Best list for two categories: The female record for most laps done in 24 hours & the fastest female inclination.
