Two students shot near Mitchell High School

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Police are investigating a shooting near Mitchell High School Friday that left two students injured.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, the shooting happened in the area of N. Academy Blvd. and E. San Miguel St.

Police say the students suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and were taken to a local hospital.

According to police, the shooting took place a couple of blocks away near a fast-food restaurant around 3 p.m. Police say the two students were shot after a fight.

After being shot, CSPD says the two students ran back to Mitchell High School and told their school resource officer that they had been shot.

As a result, District 11 put the school on a hold status, meaning no one who was on the Mitchell campus at the time was allowed to leave.

At 3:30 p.m., district officials said the hold status was lifted and students were being released.

As of 5 p.m., police said the suspect was not caught. When asked if the shooter was possibly another student at Mitchell High, police say they could not rule that out.

The suspect is described as male, in his late teens or early twenties.
