Dust storm causes 15-car crash on Highway 17 in Saguache County

SAGUACHE COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- A dust storm caused a 15-car crash Friday on Highway 17 at milepost 95, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Around 5:30 p.m. Friday CSP said a crash occurred involving vehicles in both the north and south bound lanes on Highway 17 after a dust storm caused zero visibility for drivers on the roadway.

Several other vehicles had to pull off the roadway to avoid being struck in the crash, according to state patrol.

Some of the drivers and passangers invovled sustained minor to moderate injuries and were taken to San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Alamosa.

The highway was closed until crews could clear the area and officials said the crash is still under investigation.
