31 formerly homeless veterans get two months of rent paid
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., (KRDO) - The Home Depot Foundation and Volunteers of America Colorado partnered up this Veterans Day to surprise 31 formerly homeless veterans with two months of paid rent.
Freedom Springs is a complex for formerly homeless vets who need some help, and a place to live. They do have to pay rent, according to their ability. But for the next two months, they'll be living rent-free.
Among the lucky vets was Army veteran Rosseal Gloston.
"I am grateful for it, I am thankful for it because like I said, once you keep the good lord on your side, great things will come to you," said Gloston.
He says he was living on the streets on and off for 10 years, hanging out with the wrong crowd. But he's thankful to have found a place to live at "Freedom Springs."
"This is my home, I am going to take care of it and I am proud of it," said Gloston.
Volunteers of America Colorado serves veterans and helped make this possible. They serve all year long in all 64 counties across the state, helping homeless vets get off the streets.
"Celebrating the vets and their service to our country is really important all year long, but especially on Veteran's day," said Vanessa Clark with Volunteers of America.
"For those out in the streets I'd like to tell them, just cause you out there don't mean that's the last part of life, you can always, always come up, as long as you have that man upstairs on your side," said Gloston.
The Home Depot Foundation and Volunteers of America are providing two months of paid rent for hundreds of veterans across the country.
