Victims of Pueblo fatal motorcycle accident identified

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- The victims of a fatal accident involving four motorcycle riders and a possible intoxicated driver have been identified.

On June 5, Pueblo police responded to the intersection of Northern Ave. and Orman Ave. at 4:30 p.m. on reports of a crash.

At the scene, officers found four victims. According to police, three had severe injuries and one died at the scene.

The investigation revealed a woman driving an SUV was traveling northbound on Orman Ave. when she ran a red light at Northern Ave. and hit two motorcyclists. The motorcycles were traveling eastbound on Northern Ave. Each had a passenger.

Following an initial investigation, police identified the victim who died at the scene as a 41-year-old female. The three remaining riders were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

At the hospital, a second victim succumbed to his injuries, a 54-year-old man.

Sunday, the Pueblo County Coroner identified the victims as Racheal Gallegos, 41, and Frank Chavez, 54, both of Pueblo. The official cause of death has not been released.

Police identified the driver of the SUV as 28-year-old Alisha Herrera. She is suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash. Police arrested Herrera and she was initially charged with one count of Vehicular Homicide with three counts of Vehicular Assault. Following the death of the second victim, criminal charges were amended.

PPD says the Pueblo Police Department Traffic Section responded and initiated the investigation.
