Manitou Police still looking for vandals who damaged more than 50 gravesites

MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- City workers spent Friday cleaning up debris left behind after dozens of gravestones were overturned and destroyed at the historic Crystal Valley Cemetery in Manitou Springs earlier this week.

According to the city of Manitou Springs, more than 50 monuments and entire raves were "toppled or broken." Additionally, crews found large amounts of trash along with a small burn area in the cemetery.

Police have yet to find the people responsible for the vandalism, many families are left with anger, questioning who would do this.

"When I saw that the Crystal Valley Cemetery had any vandalism it really hurt me, like it was upsetting," said Carl Faulkner, who has family buried at Crystal Valley. "And it's particularly more upsetting because those are the most important people in my life that are buried there. That part of my family is the most close with me."

While Faulkner believes his families' gravesites are okay, he is sympathetic towards the families that experienced the disrespect.

The cemetery doesn't have surveillance cameras, which means identifying and finding the vandals will be tough.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers at (719)-634-STOP.
