Pueblo gang member sentenced to 12 years in federal prison
PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- A Pueblo gang member was sentenced Friday to 12 years in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and for having a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
U.S. Attorney Jason Dunn says 28-year-old Joseph Jordan Carrillo was a member of the South Side Surenos street gang. Carrillo was a known fugitive on the FBI's Safe Streets Most Wanted List and had active warrants for his arrest due to a parole violation, according to court documents.
Police in Pueblo arrested Carrillo on Oct. 11 in 2019 after he attempted to flee on foot. Officers say he had $1916 in cash and a drug ledger. When they searched his vehicle, police found a black bag containing $1000 in cash, about 31.6 grams of heroin and a loaded revolver. Officers also obtained a search warrant for his home and found seven more firearms, about 73.4 grams of heroin and $14,563 in cash.
The judge ordered Carrillo's two sentences to run consecutively, meaning he will stay in prison for 12 years, followed by three years on supervised release.
“Over the last few years we have made a concerted effort to crack down on criminal gang activity in Pueblo,” said U.S. Attorney Jason Dunn. “Removing this felon and his arsenal of guns and drugs from the community will no doubt have a lasting impact. Great work by the Pueblo Police Department, the ATF, and prosecutors in my office.”
