Local mom launches only Junior Adaptive Cycling team in Colorado for kids of all abilities
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRD) -- A Colorado Springs mom, Ashely Steinbach, has a 13-year-old daughter who has cerebral palsy, epilepsy and autism.
After a hip surgery, a therapist recommended adaptive tricycling. Steinbach says, "It was amazing for her. She went from not walking, to walking again. Just the therapeutic benefit is huge."
With the benefits of adaptive cycling in mind, Steinbach started an adaptive cycling group that has tripled in size. The group is called Cool CATS Cycling, a Junior Adaptive Cycling team with Special Olympics Colorado. This is an opportunity for kids with varying abilities to participate in an inclusive team to have fun and make friends. CATS-- "Children of ALL Types Succeeding."
Ashley Steinbach says her daughter loves the group, because a lot of the children can get outdoors and make new friends. The founder adds, "It means a lot to me and my daughter. Hearing about the new friends she makes, coming home and just waiting for the next cool cats cycling day."
So far, Cool CATS is the only junior adaptive cycling team in the state of Colorado. The group hosts various cycling rides around Colorado Springs' parks throughout the year. For more information, you can find additional details on Cool CATS Facebook page.
