DENVER, Colo. (KRDO) -- Denver Police say a man killed one woman and injured her boyfriend while they were walking their dog.

Officers responded Wednesday afternoon to the 3000 block of N. Fox Street on a reported shooting. When police arrived, they found a deceased woman and a man with gunshot wounds.

The male victim told detectives that he was walking his dog with his girlfriend and gave the dog a command to poop. A person then yelled at the couple from his window in a ground apartment, asking if they were going to train the dog or just yell at it, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Officers say the male victim ignored the suspect's yelling and then saw him point a gun at the couple. The victim heard multiple gunshots and ran away until he no longer could due to injuries to his leg and buttocks. First responders transported the injured man to a local hospital.

Police issued a Be On the Look Out (BOLO) alert after the suspect left the scene in a black Mercedes Benz SUV.

Officers arrested 36-year-old Michael Close for murder after locating him in the vehicle at a traffic stop on US-285 and Pine Junction/Mt. Evans Blvd.

Deputies saw a pistol grip rifle and a handgun in the front passenger floorboard of the car. The suspect also had a gun belt and firearm magazines.

This is an ongoing investigation.
